A gearbox is the system of gears and/or the hydraulic system that transmit mechanical power from a prime mover – such as an engine or electric motor – to a typically rotary output device at a lower angular momentum but a higher motive torque. Gearboxes have found use in a wide variety of different — often stationary — applications. Transmissions are also used in agricultural, industrial, construction, mining and vehicle equipment. In addition to ordinary transmission equipped with gears, such equipment makes extensive use of the hydrostatic drive and electrical adjustable – speed drives.

A Gearbox is also called gear head, gear reducers or speed reducers. They are available in broad range of sizes, capacities and speed ratios. Gearing arrangement for gearbox includes spur, helical, planetary, bevel, worm, and cycloidal.

90 degree gear box

A 90 degree gearbox, also known as a right angle gearbox, transmits torque at 90 degrees to the input shaft. It features a variety of mounting holes which enable it to be mounted easily in almost any position.

Right angle gearboxes contain input shafts that are positioned perpendicular to the output shafts. Right angle gear boxes have up to 98% efficiency levels and are common in printing presses and glass cutting equipment.

Bevel Gearbox

A Bevel gear is a gear wheel with tapered teeth meshed with another so that their shafts are at an angle of 90 degrees. They connect intersecting axes. A bevel gear box is yet another right angle gearbox solution with a much higher efficiency. It has a low ratio. The ratio of a bevel gearbox is reached at by dividing the number of the teeth of the larger wheel by the number of teeth of the smaller wheel. It is also known a right angle bevel gearbox. In bevel gearboxes, 2 axles cross at a point and engage by means of a pair of conical gears. These gears enable a change in the axes of rotation of the respective shafts, commonly at 90 degrees. There are four types of bevel gear boxes:

  • Straight bevel gearboxes – They have a conical pitch surface and straight teeth tapering towards an apex.
  • Zero bevel gear boxes – This is similar to a bevel gear except the teeth are curved. In essence, zero bevel gear boxes are spiral bevel gear boxes with a spiral angle of zero.
  • Spiral bevel gear boxes – The teeth are curved teeth at an angle allowing contact and motion to be gradual and smooth.
  • Hypoid bevel gearboxes – These are similar to spiral bevel except that the pitch surfaces are hyperboloids rather than cones. Pinion can be offset above or below gear center, thus allowing larger pinion diameter, and longer life and smoother mesh.

Wear and tear is common in gear boxes. This mostly occurs as a result of contamination and degradation of the lubricant. Therefore the oil used should be free from contamination. Breathers are often used to allow airflow on the gear box.

As there are moving parts in gearboxes, they have to be well preserved. It is important to take care of gearboxes. An annual check of all switches and sensors as well as cooler condition should be performed to ensure its long life and trouble free performance.

Let’s face it – time is probably our greatest resource. We never seem to have enough of it and it seems to pass so quickly. Well we won’t get any more of it and we can’t slow it down.

What we can do is make the most of the time we have. Here are some simple steps you can take to get the most out of your day.

1. Plan your day the night before – At the end of each day write out all the things you need to do the following day to achieve your goals. Pull together all the information you’ll need, phone numbers and relevant paperwork.

2. Prioritise the list – Number each item and do the nasty jobs first. There’s always the temptation to do the easy jobs first. However, think how the thought of doing the nasty jobs hangs over you as you do the easy stuff. Think how good you’ll feel when the nasties are out of the way and how motivated you’ll feel.

3. Stick to your list – Tick off each item as you go and don’t let yourself be distracted. The temptation is to handle the telephone and e-mails as they come in. The phone is hard to ignore but you could always pull out the plug and let it go to voice mail and switch off the email program. Make an agreement with yourself to check for messages every two hours or so.

There is an epidemic in the United States. An epidemic that is so overlooked, if gone unchecked any longer, could cripple the economic strata of the U.S. An epidemic that could be responsible for the genocide of millions of businesses. Curious what it is? I am referring to the gross mismanagement of e-commerce businesses. Okay, perhaps the phrases “cripple the economic strata” and “genocide of millions of businesses” was stretching a bit too far, however, it is a fact that the bulk of e-commerce businesses are not built on an infrastructure that embodies stability. I am referring to a lack of customer service support in the umbrella of businesses designating themselves “e-commerce” or “virtual businesses”.

It is true that the lure of starting the e-commerce business is powerful. An endeavor as such usually requires little or no capital investment, a credit card processing account, and rudimentary knowledge of HTML coding. These three elements compose the basic formula for starting an e-commerce business. There is a marked difference in the formula for starting a business and the formula for maintaining a business. To expound on the latter, what truly makes a business thrive is proper customer relationship management and immediate telephone / live voice account support. This is the key component that is missing from most on-line or “virtual” businesses.

Take, for instance, the internet based company Netflix. If you are unfamiliar with the company, they are a relatively young e-commerce business specializing in mail order DVD rental. The minds behind the ingenious idea that is the basis of Netflix failed to create telephone support for their product. There is no doubt this decision was a calculated one as they most likely weighed the cost of maintaining an in-house call center vs. integrating purely e-mail based support. Without looking at the numbers side of the argument, imagine the frustrated consumer having problems with their order and having to rely on a 24 hour lagged e-mail response system to rectify their account issues. Based on this plausible conjecture, I believe lack of live operator support will be the ruin of the Netflix organization and the downfall of all e-commerce businesses that follow the same train of thought. What these businesses do not realize is that it is possible and extremely cost effective to outsource your call center needs to an established advanced call center facility. This solution has a two fold benefit. It serves to establish a solid foundation of customer relationship management and opens businesses up to benefit from word of mouth advertising.

As the name suggests, MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing), basically involves selling a company’s product directly to the customer by way of networking. Traditional retail selling is left to the brick and mortor businesses.

MLM is executed through a multi-layered distributor system where payments by the company are made to the distributors according to the distribution level they are in. Distributors are responsible for the business development and the revenue generation for the company.

The products sold are those that are used daily. Generally MLM is done by the companies that are offering products of regular use, such as, soaps, detergents, car wash, containers and cosmetics. This is not an exhaustive list, it’s merely a sample.

The convenience of shopping is another strong feature of MLM. Generally, MLM supports online shopping and at times even people network makes the shopping process easy. The distributor goes to the customer’s house, workplace or wherever it’s convenient to both the seller and the buyer.

The key features of MLM include networking, flexible timing and convenience.

Networking is the backbone and the soul of MLM. Word of mouth and trust play major roles in the success of MLM. People known to the distributor trust him or her recommendations and try out the products. If the products do have the impact on the customers, then these customers most often recommend these same products to other people they know. And so the snowball rolls.
